Well, I strayed a bit from the original topic (wool dogs) and ran off on the Chinookan Village Dog, but you get two types of Indian dog for the price of one post.

Getting back on topic---I have seen a reference from Capt. Vancouver's visit to the Lower Columbia. The statement was, that when he was here, the good Capt. had the chance to examine the pelt or brushed out wool from a wool dog. He wrote of it later saying that the wool was so thick that he could pick it up by one corner. Capt. Vancouver did not go up the Columbia much further than Baker's Bay, so this written report either ties the wooly dog to the lower river Chinooks OR they had traded for the pelt.
