Today's Chinook Tribal Members are mostly still here in the Pacific Northwest. Sure as I say that, sure as heck, someone will point out a Member that happens to be living happily in South Africa or someplace equally as exotic. But as a rule of thumb, they are all STILL here. Not living on a Reservation, although some do, but rather as productive members of our society, working someplace, and bringing home a paycheck. I am reminded of the quote from an old Chinook when he was asked: How long have the Chinook been here? His answer was---"We have ALWAYS been here."

And this is true. It seems to me that if you remove a Chinook from the Columbia River, there lives a certain sadness in their heart, and that sadness only goes away once they return to the River.

Steady Eddie (who will be at Old Ft. Vancouver tomorrow, hope to see you there)......
