Had a great time yesterday at Old Ft, Vancouver. Visited the Fort, and walked where my wife's ancestors walked. Saw the Great Dining Hall where Chief Comcomly ate dinner as an honored guest. Found a postcard in the Gift Shop with picture of the bronze statue of "Ilchee", which is placed nearby on a public trail by the River. She was a daughter of Chief Comcomly, who for political purposes, married Chief Casino. She was a Tyee in her own right, and very famous locally. When asked why I wanted the card, I replied that Ilchee was my my wife's great-great-great-great Aunt, and I asked the lady behind the counter to keep an eye on the postcard while I watched the video about the Fort. When I came back, I was greeted by no less than Rebecca Peck, the Branch Manager of the entire Fort complex. A very nice lady, she wanted to know if my wife would care to come to the Fort as a special guest. I told her "probably not". I was told that although the Fort's employees live the life of the Old Fort daily, and they all know most of the history, there are no Chinook decendants involved.

So, if there are any Tribal Members out there, who may be reading this, get on down to the Old Fort, tell them who you are, and be prepared to be treated like Comcomly himself. It is, as they say, an "opportunity" for the Chinook to shine.
