What the B.I.A. fails to remember is (as I said in another post) historically it wasn't "politically correct" to even BE a Native American, let alone trying to, say, get others of the Tribe to vote as a block on certain issues, (I am not sure if perhaps the Native Americans weren't denied the Right to vote anyway). The Chinook were, and indeed ARE, a People who were always quick to seize upon a better way. This is why so many of them adopted the best (?) part of the White Man's ways. This is why the Old One-eyed Chief Comcomly married his daughters off to White Men. The holy men (and women) of the Chinooks (Shamen) had predicted, far in advance, the coming of the White Man, "from the East"--even going so far as to predict the "long, flowing Black Robes" of the White Man's Shamen (the Jesuit Preists). So, Chief Comcomly was just following prediction.
