For Julia:

Please look for the interconnect between the Killamook and the Chinook.

The Killamook had (in their Tillamook Bay home area) a very large outcropping or cliff of native "Chalk". It is written that this chalk was the source of the pigment that was used by the Indians (of all tribes or groups) to create the bright white paint used on totems, lodges, and canoes.

It is of note that the "hatchet was buried" during those times when many different tribes were gathering chalk near Tillamook Bay. The Killamook were their "hosts" during those times.

Where ever this chalk is located, it must be the site of a tremendous amount of Indian artifacts as the site was used for chalk gathering for a very long time. I have not been able to find out if this site has ever been studied.
