I know that spruce root was used to weave waterproof baskets and hats. Cattail flags and tules were used for mats. Although bear grass does not grow in the Chinook area it was a common trade item employed in their weaving. Other fibers, such as nettles and the inner dark of the cedar, were used as well. You might check out David Douglas’ Oregon journal [1826] it goes in to some detail about the plants used by the Chinook.
